My lovely client Carol found me through Google and she asked if I would paint the wooden fence in her Mount Maunganui courtyard. Small space, but some big potential.
After I popped around for a quick site visit, I walked past a pincushion flower in her garden and was so taken by it!! It is native to South Africa, and I loved the shape of the blooms, the leaves, and the incredible colours. I knew straight away I wanted to create a design around it, so the mural would have a bit of connection to her home.
The Creative Direction
Carol was keen for some green tones, and generally loved my work so I had a lot of creative freedom to explore some ideas. I created two concepts for her to choose from. I kept in mind that the wooden palings can be tricky to paint with a brush, so I intentionally scaled the design up to suit the timber fence.
The fence was in decent condition, but still made sure to prime it first. The whole outdoor mural took two days, and I had a lot of fun! A good workout too, up and down a ladder!
Carol said she was so pleased to have something so beautiful to look at while drinking a cuppa in the sunshine! She also sent me home with a handful of pincushion stems, talk about perks of the job!!
