The Blue Cottage is an early learning centre in Pāpāmoa and I was so excited when they asked me to create a mural with a strong reference to NZ native flora and fauna.
The team had seen my cushion design for Bolt of Cloth and were interested in commissioning a mural to brighten up the carpark and create a strong visual for their fence which was visible from the main through-route Tara Road.
The team wanted to acknowledge the land which the daycare centre was built on, with the harakeke (flax) and the natural landscape to the right side of the mural, graduating to the beach and moana which is represented by the toi toi and bunny tail fauna.
With a strong connection to the centre as my eldest child attended the daycare, this mural was close to my heart.
